Placement Services
Graduates of NDCC Career Development Programs are eligible to meet one-on-one with the Employment Specialist. These sessions are tailored to meet the individual needs of each client regarding educational and occupational goals. Assistance can be provided in the following areas, as needed:
- Employment Trends: Job seekers need to know the latest in employment trends – including career development. The Employment Specialist remains current in these critical areas and can equip graduates with the information they need to manage their careers effectively.
- Job Leads: The Employment Specialist offers job leads and – as appropriate – can often make employer introductions. Graduates are not "placed" in jobs through Placement Services but benefit from the support, insight, and advocacy of the program.
- Workplace Guidance: Graduates often benefit from guidance and support in navigating workplace issues. The Employment Specialist can help clients work through and effectively address issues such as culture, communication, professional relations, etc.
- Interview Skill Refinement and Résumé Review: The Employment Specialist can assist graduates to enhance interviewing abilities and increase comfort levels in private sessions or actual mock interviews. Résumés can be reviewed and, should a graduate need further assistance, appropriate referrals for résumé writing assistance can be made.
- School Selection and Financing: Graduates may utilize the Employment Specialist as one resource in finalizing school selection and educational financing. Eligibility requirements vary but Placement Services is a great way to gain information on grants, scholarships, and more! Assistance is also available for the completion of scholarship essays.
- Networking, Informational Interviews and Shadowing Experiences: The Employment Specialist maintains relations and/or sources representatives from multiple professions, and if appropriate, can coach the graduate on appropriate questions to ask in order to explore opportunities within professions – as well as how to maintain the newly established relationship after the initial meeting.
Placement Services are available to graduates at no cost and for as long as needed. However, clients utilizing the Placement Service will be expected to maintain an active job search and/or pursuit of education.
Individual Career Counseling
Graduates of our programs are eligible to meet one-on-one with a licensed career counselor to discuss occupational questions and challenges. Sessions are designed to meet an individual's specific situation and working pace, and may include – but are not limited to – discussions regarding a graduate's perceptions and feelings about the job search, continued exploration or clarification of career interests, and support overcoming barriers to employment.
Graduates may receive up to four sessions of individual career counseling per year. An hourly fee is charged for this service, subject to our sliding fee scale to ensure everyone can make use of this service if needed – regardless of one's ability to pay.
