Ask an expert! New Directions Career Center, a non-profit, United Way agency assists individuals
secure jobs as well as transitions careers. Our licensed counselors and career development specialists
are here to help.
Two August classes are currently open for enrollment. New Directions (ND), a four week program designed
exclusively for women, is a 4 week exploration of who you are and where you want to go with
identification of career goals and development of a concrete plan to achieve them. The sessions include
classroom time with respected educators, employers, employment experts, community leaders, and more!
It begins on August 23rd and runs, 9:00am - 3:00pm, Monday - Friday, through September 17th.
Creating Career Options (CCO) is a 15 hour, three session course open to men and women. It is designed
to assist career changers in identifying their values and career interests through open discussion and
formal personality testing. Participants gain a better understanding of themselves, their options,
and networking opportunities. CCO will be held Monday, August 16th and Wednesday, August 18th, from
5:00pm - 9:00pm and Saturday, August 21st, from 9:00am - 4:00pm.

SHEPARD LIBRARY BRANCH TO OFFER INTERVIEWING WORKSHOP
New Directions Career Center, a non-profit organization specializing in career development assistance,
will provide a free "Effective Interviewing" seminar on Tuesday, August 3rd from 10:00am - 12:00pm at
the Shepard Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, located at 790 North Nelson Road in Columbus.
The two hour event will offer cutting edge information for job seekers including how to present
transferrable skills effectively, turn a work history into an employer benefit, and overcome recruiter
objections. There is no cost to attend. For more information, contact the New Directions Career

FINANCIAL LITERACY WORKSHOPS OFFERED
New Directions Career Center, a non-profit organization serving central Ohio for 30 years, is offering
two workshops to assist individuals seeking financial guidance. On July 28th, from 3:00pm - 4:00pm the
public is invited to attend a session, Managing Your Utility Bills, which answers their questions
regarding how to manage their utility bills - electric, telephone, and natural gas - in light of
rising costs. A representative from the Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel will discuss utility
assistance programs, budget billing, and energy efficiency.
The second workshop, More Money: The Five Ways to Improve Your Financial Well-Being, held on August
24th from 3:30pm - 4:30pm, is an opportunity for individuals to learn the top five ways to improve
their financial well-being. These proven techniques work whether you're working, unemployed, facing
bankruptcy, or considering retirement. Don't miss the opportunity to change your financial picture -
for the better.
Both workshops will be held at New Directions Career Center, located at 199 E. Rich Street in downtown
Columbus. There is a $10.00 registration fee payable at the door on the day of the workshop. For more
