New Directions

A program for women in transition designed to reduce barriers to satisfying, long-term employment and assist in developing a career plan.

The intensive, four-week course helps women:

  • Discover career interests through assessment.
  • Identify and challenge barriers to employment.
  • Set achievable career goals.
  • Make informed career decisions.
  • Improve wellness in all areas of life.

New Directions meets Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Creating Career Options

A three (3) session career assessment course open to men and women designed to help individuals navigate career change and make informed career decisions.

  • Discover your career interests through assessment.
  • Learn to research career options that are right for you.
  • Develop an effective career change plan.

Creating Career Options is three sessions: Monday and Wednesday, 5:00 - 9:00 pm and Saturday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Advanced Career Techniques

Session 1: Resumes Your Way

Develop an eye-catching, effective resume that stands out from all the rest.

Session 2: Job Search Strategies

Learn job searching strategies that can increase your chances of finding a great job.

Session 3: Interviewing Skills and Salary Negotiation

Learn how to prepare for an interview. Develop salary negotiation skills to convince the employer to offer you a salary based on your value.

Individual Career Counseling

Client can discuss their occupational questions and challenges one-on-one with a licensed career counselor.

One (1) hour sessions typically scheduled Monday - Friday between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. Other times potentially available upon request.

Career Placement

Graduates of our programs are eligible to meet one-on-one with our Career Placement Specialist to receive help identifying employment, networking and training opportunities that match their individual qualifications and career goals.

Bridging the Digital and Professional Divide*

A program designed for job seekers 50-years and older, who want an introduction to technology and communication keys needed to be successful in today’s workforce. Class topics include:
  • Resume Writing and Effective Interviewing
  • Basic Computer Navigation on Windows OS
  • Basic Word Processing in Microsoft Word 2007
  • Basics of Internet Browsing and E-mail
  • On-line Job Searching and Applications
  • Professionalism in the Workplace

Bridging the Digital and Professional Divide is held weekdays from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Days of the week vary each month

Monthly Workshops

Workshops address a variety of career development topics above and beyond our core programming, including financial literacy, communication skills and life-long learning topics. Workshops are relevant to the unemployed, underemployed and newly employed and assist participants as they move through the job search process, enter employment, and become financially independent and responsible.

Upcoming Workshops:

Effective Interviewing Skills Improve your job interviewing skills by learning to overcome interviewer objections, clearly explain how your experience benefits the employer, and by avoiding the introduction of “negatives” in your answers.

This workshop is free and open to the public, as well as current clients of the Center.

CENTRAL OHIO JOB HELP DAY

People in central Ohio looking to sharpen their resume writing or interviewing skills can take advantage of Central Ohio’s Job Help Day on March 18, 2010. Library branches in the central Ohio library system will be hosting events to help job seekers.

New Directions Career Center will be at the Bexley Library Branch from 1:00-3:00 pm providing one-on-one resume help to interested patrons at that branch.
